    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Relationship to parents not proven: See note below.

    • Census: 23 Aug 1870, Troy Township, Fountain County, Indiana, USA
    • Occupation: 1908; Farmer
    • Census: 1920, Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois, USA

    Notes:

Samuel's relationship to the listed parents is not proven. As noted below, one of his marriage records, for which he probably provided the information, records these names, but his death record lists different parents. There is no direct evidence that proves his probable father, Samuel Baldwin, is the same Samuel Baldwin who was the son of Samuel (I910) and Hannah (I911) Baldwin.

In the marriage license (6 May 1908) of Samuel Baldwin and his second wife, Samuel's parents are given as Samuel Baldwin and Louisa Romine. However, his death record states that his parents were William Baldwin and Sarah Romine. The marriage record is more likely correct, since it would have been Samuel himself providing the information, whereas the informant on the death record is his son, James W. Baldwin.

At the time of the 1860 census, Samuel was living with Peter Romine (age 27, born Virginia), Martha Romine (age 71, born Virginia), and Thomas W. Nesbet (age 11, born Ohio) in Richland Township, Fountain County, Indiana, USA.

Samuel L. Baldwin served in Company E, 63rd Indiana Infantry, during the Civil War. He enlisted on 11 August 1862 in Covington, Indiana, and was discharged on 21 June 1865 in Greensboro, North Carolina. In his later years, he lived in the Danville, Indiana, National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers.
