At the time of the 1881 census, Helen Will was a "Tablemaid Domestic Servant" to William Lang Witherspoon, minister of the parish of Kilspindie. She emigrated to New South Wales, sailing as a general assisted passenger on the SS Aberdeen from Plymouth on 11 September 1884, and arriving in Australia on 1 November 1884. She may have been married at the time to a man named Hunter.
