The first list is from the ship Pretorian, which sailed from Glasgow to Montreal on 15 May 1908. The second list is from the ship Grampian, which sailed from Glasgow to Montreal on 5 June 1908. They disembarked at Montreal, Québec.

Alexander was living with the Albert Eglin family in Spencer, Medina County, Ohio, at the time of the 1920 census. He was described as 14 years old and born in Scotland. The only source that records his middle initial as J. is a border crossing card from 1909, when his father brought Alexander and his brother to the United States from Canada.
