Zachariah and Ann Dawson Magruder were married by the Rev. William Shaw, a Deacon of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Allegany County, Maryland.

    Notes:

    John W. Magruder was probably born in Allegany County, Maryland. The place of his marriage to Margaret Porter is not known, but it could have taken place either in Brooke County, (West) Virginia, or in Allegany County, Maryland. John W. and Margaret Porter Magruder are buried in the Milledgeville-Plymouth Cemetery near Milledgeville, Fayette County, Ohio. The John W. Magruder family was living in Allegany County, Maryland, in 1830. By 1840, they had moved to (West) Virginia and settled in Brooke County. They moved to Ohio County, (West) Virginia, by 1850, and lived there until about 1870, when they moved to Clinton County, Ohio. After two or three years in Clinton County, they moved to Fayette County, and settled near Milledgeville.

    John W. Magruder appears in a list of names in the (Wheeling, West Virginia) Daily Intelligencer of April 25, 1860. The list appears to be a list of voters who are being asked to attend a meeting in Wheeling on May 2, 1860, to elect delegates to the Republican national convention.

    According to Martha Ellen Magruder Crick's obituary, she and Francis had seven sons and one daughter, but only the names of four children are known. Her obituary in the Wilmington (Ohio) Journal of 5 Dec 1888 reads: "News was received here last week of the death of Mrs. Martha Ellen Crick, at her home in Beamsville, Darke County. Deceased was formerly Martha Ellen McGruder, and was a sister-in-law of Samuel T. Darbyshire, of this place; she also had several relatives in Fayette County near Milledgeville. She was born in Cumberland, Md., November 20, 1809, was married to Francis Creek May 26, 1828. They moved to Wilmington in 1851, and thirteen years later moved to Beamsville, where she resided until her death. She joined the Christian Church in Wilmington in 1854. She was the mother of eight children - seven sons and one daughter - four of whom are left to mourn her loss. She will, no doubt, be remembered by many of the older citizens of this county".

    Daniel B. Magruder and Mary Dyer were married by a man named Silas Burns, who may have been a relative of Daniel's mother, Margaret Porter. Daniel Magruder served in the United States Army during the Civil War. He first enlisted on 1 October 1861, in Company L, Sixth (West) Virginia Infantry, and was discharged on 17 September 1862. On that same day, he enlisted in Company I, 15th Regiment, West Virginia Volunteer Infantry, and was mustered into service on 11 October 1862. He was discharged as a First Lieutenant on 6 April 1864. Mary is listed as a widow in the 1890 Census of Pensioners. In "The History of the Pan-handle: being historical collections of Ohio, Brooke, Marshall, and Hancock, West Virginia" (by J. H. Newton, published by J.A. Caldwell, Wheeling, West Viginia, 1879) is the following: "Daniel B. Magruder was born in Allegany County, Maryland, in 1826. He came to Ohio County, West Virginia, in 1839, worked in an iron mill five years, then engaged in the stone and lime business. He afterwards kept a saloon in Wheeling, two years, then removed to Indiana, where he followed the occupation of a farmer, but now resides at Elm Grove, West Virginia, and is engaged in mining.     It is unclear whether Thomas S. Magruder was born in Allegany County, Maryland, or in Brooke County, (West) Virginia. The 1860 census of Marshall County, (West) Virginia gives his birthplace as Maryland. He and his first wife, Elizabeth Riggs, were married in (West) Virginia, by Samuel Jones. His second wife, Millie Jane Earnest, was a widow. Thomas S. Magruder served in the United States Army during the Civil War. He enlisted on 10 October 1861, and served as a sergeant in Company L, 6th Regiment, West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. He was appointed a First Lieutenant in Company A, 12th Regiment, West Virginia Volunteer Infantry, on 18 July 1862. He was apparently discharged in late 1862 or early 1863, as he again enlisted in Wheeling, West Virginia, on 2 December 1863, and served as a private and sergeant in Company I, 15th Regiment, West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. He was later transferred to Company I, 10th Regiment. He was mustered out on 16 August 1865, at Wheeling. A harness-maker, he lived after the war in Fayette County, Ohio, Decatur and Wayne Counties, Iowa, and in Coles County, Illinois. His obituary in the "Moundsville (West Virginia) Echo," in the 29 August 1902 issue, reads: "Thomas S. Magruder - A former citizen of Calis, Marshall County, WV died at his home near Brushey Fork, Illinois of old age. The old gentleman died in the morning and his son, Albert, died on the evening of the same day with typhoid fever. Mr. Magruder and family moved from Marshall County to Illinois during last March. Mr. Magruder was well known to the people of this county, having served in a West Virginia regiment during the Civil War." His middle name is given as Samuel on his daughter Minnie's death certificate and as Sanford on his second marriage license.
