    Notes
    • Note from Lynda Buxton: George was an artist. Here is a little story John Abery told his daughter Raewyn about George. George was studying to be a Master Mariner. However, he liked boxing and went to Fiji and got in a boxing match in which he got hurt. That was the start of brain damage and he developed Meningitis through hard study. Eventually he lost all hearing. Apparently he had a canary that he loved - he was a great whistler. On the day that George went deaf, the bird died. As he could no longer be a Master Mariner due to his hearing loss, he took up art (painting - used to like painting ships).
