    Notes
    • The 1841 census of Glen of Pitlowrie, Kinfauns Parish, shows James Edward, age 55, day labourer; Margaret Edward, age 14; David Edward, age 12; Robert Edward, age 9; Elizabeth Guthrie, age 50, and; William Grant, age 2, the illegitimate son of Catherine Edward. In the christening record of his son, William (1813), James was described as a workman in Nether Durdie, in the parish of Kilspindie. In their marriage record in Kilspindie, James' residence was given as Kilspindie, and Elizabeth's was given as Kinfauns. This may be the James Edward who was born in Forfar in 1787, the son of James Edward and Jean Grant.
    • James Edward was a ploughman in Whiteriggs of Clashbenny at the time of his daughter Jean's birth in 1814. In 1829, he was a foreman at Fala. In addition to the marriage record at Kilspindie, there is also a marriage record for James Edward and Elizabeth Guthrie at Kinfauns, Perthshire, Scotland, just five days later, on 31 October 1812.
