Samuel Beall Magruder signed the Oath of Fidelity and Support during the American Revolution in 1778. He also served as a private during the War in First Company, Class 6, Lower Battalion, Montgomery County (Maryland) Militia.

Samuel Magruder was a vestryman at St. Paul's Church, a civil and military officer (Colonel) between 1676-1705, and a member of the Assembly from 1704 until 1707. His will was drawn on 23 November 1710, and was probated on 16 April 1711.

Robert Wade was a member of the militia in 1695, a Justice of Prince George's County, Maryland, in 1696 and 1697, a Commissioner in 1706, and Captain of the Horse in 1714. His will is dated 2 February 1713.

Alexander Magruder was born in Balmaclone, Maderty Parish, Perthshire, Scotland. He is believed to have served the Drummond family as the Chamberlain for their estates in the civil parish of Dunblane in Strathallan. He was captured either at the Battle of Preston in 1648 or the Battle of Worcester in 1651 during the English Civil War, and he served a period of indenture in Maryland following his imprisonment, possibly in Barbados. Alexander's first wife was a close relative of either Samuel Taylor or Ninian Beall. By the time of his death in 1677, Alexander Magruder was very wealthy and owned 4000 acres of land, known as "Craighnaigh," "Dunblane," "Alexandria," "Good Luck," and "Anchovie Hills." His will was drawn on 20 February 1676, and was probated on 25 July 1677.

Colonel Ninian Beall's first wife, Elizabeth Gordon, was from Largo, Scotland. Ninian Beall was taken prisoner by Cromwell's forces at the Battle of Dunbar in 1650, and sent to Barbados. He was then sent to Maryland, where he settled about 1652. His sons, John and Thomas, came to America in 1666. Ninian Beall was commander-in-chief of the Maryland forces on Lord Baltimore's vessel, "The Royal Charles," the first Presbyterian elder in America, sheriff and surveyor of Charles County, Maryland, Colonel of the militia, Indian Commissioner, and a member of the Assembly. He was reportedly 6'7" tall, with red hair. By the time of his death, he had acquired over 25,000 acres of land. His birth year has been variously reported as 1615 or 1625 and his death year as 1707 or 1717.

Notes:

Zachary Wade settled at Kent Island, Maryland, as a member, it is assumed, of William Claiborne's party, prior to April 1647. He swore fealty to Lord Baltimore in April 1647, and moved to Charles County, Maryland, by 1661. He was apparently from Warwickshire, and had at least two brothers, John and William.

Colonel Thomas Sprigg (Royal Lancers) was born c1630 in Kettering, Northamptonshire, and died in December 1704 in Northampton, Prince George's County, Maryland. He (and probably the Nuthalls) settled first in Virginia; Thomas first appears in Maryland in March 1651, already married to a widow, Catherine Graves Roper (there were stepchildren, Verlinda and Nathaniel). They probably came to Maryland with Catherine's brother-in-law, the newly appointed governor, William Stone. They were living on a plantation called "Resurrection Manor" in Calvert County in 1656, shortly after which Catherine died. There was one child, Thomas (1659-1739) who has many descendants (largely in West Virginia). Thomas Sr. must have been a widower for some years, as his second wife was only about nine when his first wife died. He was a justice for many years in Prince George's and Calvert Counties, and sheriff of Calvert County 1664-1665. His larger plantation "Northampton" stayed in the family until 1865. In 1814, President Madison briefly took refuge there when Washington was burned by the British; Pierre L'Enfant is supposed to have designed the gardens. The house burned down in 1909.

From the Baltimore Sun, 1909:

"In Prince George's County, some six or seven miles inland from the grant steel highway, along which travelers between Annapolis and Washington are borne swiftly to their destination, there stands an old Manor House, encircled by a plantation of 800 acres. "Northhampton" was built by Thomas Sprigg, Colonist and Gentleman, from England, whose death occurred in 1704. A full length portrait of that worthy gentleman, still in the possession of descendants represents a handsome man in full court costume, while the archives of Maryland give abundant proof that the original was a gentleman of official distinction and social importance. The manor house is a frame, about 125 feet front, and such portion as is of the original architecture, is put together without nails. The drawing room, library and dining rooms, all with high chimney places and wide open fireplaces, face the front and in the rear according to the fashion of 200 hundred years ago, are bedrooms with tall gothic windows, and other rooms now used as pantries. The place is well wooded and about the residence are elm and willow trees, also flowering magnolia trees, white fringe trees, trailing their delicate blossoms. There is a real lover's walk, winding between a hedge of old fashioned lilacs, that being in clusters of purple and white send their fragrance through the early spring sunshine. Here was spent the youth of Governor Samuel Sprigg, who became the heir of his uncle Osborne Sprigg and from him inherited "Northhampton". Here was brought in 1811 the Governor's bride and here was born in 1811 the Governor's little daughter, Sally whose baby helplessness was the safeguard of "Northhampton from destruction by the British, when the latter's troops advanced along the Patuxcent River to attack Washington. Governor Sprigg was in hiding at the time and the house was examined but owing to the young baby and its mother, the homestead escaped injury, or pillage beyond the seizure of wines and provisions."

Most sources say Thomas' parentage is unknown, but some claim his father was Thomas Sprigg (born c1604, died a1679, Kettering), who married Katherine Griffin (born c1610-1661) - see Spriggs, Kenneth W., "Spriggey, Sprigge, Sprigg, Spriggs from 145 AD to 1997 AD", page 37.

John Brewer is thought to have been born in Cardiff, Wales, and to have emigrated to Massachusetts in 1645. He was a member of the Nansemond Puritan Colony of Virginia. In 1649, this Puritan colony moved to Maryland, and Brewer settled on the South River near Annapolis. He was a Commissioner for Anne Arundel County in 1657, and a member of the Assembly in 1661.

Henry Ridgeley settled on the Patuxent River in Prince George's County, Maryland, in 1659, on a royal grant of 6000 acres. His third wife, Mary, was the widow of Mareen Duval, the Huguenot. Henry Ridgeley was a vestryman of St. Ann's Church and was one of the early founders of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He was a Commissioner to Advance Trade in 1683, Justice of the Peace from 1686 to 1696, Captain of a company of militia in 1689, commissioned a major in 1692, a member of the Assembly in 1694, commissoned a lieutenant colonel in 1694, and a member of the Governor's Council.
