    Notes:

    Samuel Magruder was a vestryman at St. Paul's Church, a civil and military officer (Colonel) between 1676-1705, and a member of the Assembly from 1704 until 1707. His will was drawn on 23 November 1710, and was probated on 16 April 1711.

    Samuel married Sarah Beall before 1686. Sarah (daughter of Ninian Beall and Ruth Moore) died in 1734. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  1. 4.  Alexander Magruder was born in 1610 in Balmaclone, Maderty, Perthshire, Scotland (son of Alexander McGruder and Margaret Campbell); died in 1677.

    Notes:

    Alexander Magruder was born in Balmaclone, Maderty Parish, Perthshire, Scotland. He is believed to have served the Drummond family as the Chamberlain for their estates in the civil parish of Dunblane in Strathallan. He was captured either at the Battle of Preston in 1648 or the Battle of Worcester in 1651 during the English Civil War, and he served a period of indenture in Maryland following his imprisonment, possibly in Barbados. Alexander's first wife was a close relative of either Samuel Taylor or Ninian Beall. By the time of his death in 1677, Alexander Magruder was very wealthy and owned 4000 acres of land, known as "Craighnaigh," "Dunblane," "Alexandria," "Good Luck," and "Anchovie Hills." His will was drawn on 20 February 1676, and was probated on 25 July 1677.

    Notes:

    Colonel Ninian Beall's first wife, Elizabeth Gordon, was from Largo, Scotland. Ninian Beall was taken prisoner by Cromwell's forces at the Battle of Dunbar in 1650, and sent to Barbados. He was then sent to Maryland, where he settled about 1652. His sons, John and Thomas, came to America in 1666. Ninian Beall was commander-in-chief of the Maryland forces on Lord Baltimore's vessel, "The Royal Charles," the first Presbyterian elder in America, sheriff and surveyor of Charles County, Maryland, Colonel of the militia, Indian Commissioner, and a member of the Assembly. He was reportedly 6'7" tall, with red hair. By the time of his death, he had acquired over 25,000 acres of land. His birth year has been variously reported as 1615 or 1625 and his death year as 1707 or 1717.

    Notes:

    Alexander McGruder was born at Craignech, Muthill Parish, Perthshire, Scotland. He was Chamberlain to John Drummond, Lord Commendator of Inchaffray Abbey, and acted as his procurator or attorney.

    Alexander married Margaret Campbell in cir 25 May 1605. Margaret (daughter of Nicol Campbell and Katherine Drummond) was born in cir 1580. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
