    Notes:

    Sir Archibald (Gillespie) Campbell was granted many forfeited lands by David II on 2 May 1343. He did homage to Robert II on 26 March 1371.

  1. 4.  Colin Campbell, Lord of Lochow (son of Niel Campbell and ? Crawford); died before 2 May 1343.

    Notes:

    Sir Colin Campbell had a charter for the Lordship of Lochow dated 10 Feb.1315. He accompanied the King into Ireland in 1316. to assist in placing his brother, Edward Bruce, upon the throne of that kingdom. Sir Colin, in 1334, assisted the Steward of Scotland in the recovery of the castle of Dunoon from the English, which gave the first turn of fortune in favor of King David Bruce, and he was in consequence appointed heritable Governor of that fortress.

  1. 8.  Niel Campbell (son of Colin Campbell, of Lochow and ? Sinclair); died before 1316.

    Notes:

    Sir Niel (or Nigel) Campbell was knighted by Alexander III toward the end of that monarch's reign. He joined Robert Bruce in 1296, and adhered to him in prosperity and adversity, and fought by his side in almost battle, from Methven to Bannockburn. The King had so high a sense of Campbell's services that he gave him him his sister, Lady Mary Bruce, in marriage (Campbell's third wife). After Bannockburn, Sir Niel Campbell was one of the great barons in the Parliament which met at Ayr, 26 April 1315, and fixed the succession to the crown.

  1. 16.  Colin Campbell, of Lochow (son of Gillespic Campbell and Aife); died in cir 1296.

    Notes:

    Sir Colin Campbell, due to his achievements in war and the lands he added to his estate, obtained the surname Mor, or Great. From him, the Chief of the House is in the Gaelic styled, to this day, Mac Calein Mor. He was knighted by Alexander III in 1280, and was one of the nominees in 1291, on the part of Robert Bruce, in the contest for the crown of Scotland. This renowned and gallant chieftain was slain about 1296 in a conflict with his powerful neighbor, the Lord of Lorne, at a place called the String of Lorne, where a cairn is erected over his grave. The event occasioned continued feuds for many years between the Houses of Lochow and Lorne, which terminated at last by the marriage of the first Earl of Argyll with the heiress of Lorne.
