- Gay Sanford attended East Central State Teachers College in Ada, Oklahoma. After graduation, she took the Civil Service Spanish Translator Test and worked as a Spanish translator in the Office of Censorship in San Antonio, Texas, for 2½ years during World War II. She then studied at the University of Texas to become an Engineer's Aide and went to work at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
