- George W Talley joined the Confederate Army on 1 March 1863 in Benton, Polk County, Tennessee. He was a private in Company D, 3rd Tennessee Infantry (Lillard's). He was captured at the surrender of Vicksburg, Mississippi, on 4 July 1863. He signed an oath of allegiance to the United States on 10 Jul 1863 and was released. Records show that on 22 March 1864 he registered that Oath of Allegiance with the Confederate army in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
