- George Cotter appears in the 1848 and 1850 censuses of Canada West (Ontario). In both records, he is listed on page 3, McGillivray Township, Huron (now Middlesex) County. George Cotter made his "Declaration for Naturalization" in Clark County, Ohio, on 5 June 1855, declaring that he had been in the United States for five years. The declaration was granted in 1857.
