He enlisted on 9 August 1862, in Marengo, McHenry County, ILlinois, and was mustered in on 4 September 1862, in Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois. Her service record indicates that he was 5' 5 1/2", with gray eyes and a dark complexion. He is said to have died of wounds suffered at Vicksburg, Mississippi, on 22 May 1863.
