  		Thomas Bryan, Jr. Note on back by Clarence Ray Bryan, Jr.: "Thos. Bryan (Jr) tombstone, photo Oct 1981. Bryan Cemetery on Alabama Road 7 miles Southeast of LaFayette, Ga. I don't know when this cemetery was established but probably about 1878. Also in this cemetery are graves of Thos. Pinkney Bryan and Josephine Bryan Williams, Leander Crook Bryan and his wife Emma Sims Bryan. The metal marker honoring service in the War of 1812 was installed about 1950 & Dad was present as the last surviving grand child. The marker was lying on the ground and I placed it where it could be photographed with the tombstone. Thomasin Grogan Bryan buried adjacent in 1910."
  		Thomas Bryan, Jr.
  Notes	Thomas Bryan served as a private in Captain Jack Waters' company, Colonel Booth's regiment (4th), General McIntosh's brigade, of the Georgia militia during the War of 1812. His service was mostly at Mobile, Alabama, and at Fort Hawkins, Georgia. He served from 21 Nov 1814 until 6 May 1815. He later served in Captain Samuel Faris' company of Georgia Mounted Volunteers and was "in the removal of the Creek Indians beyond the Mississippi River." This service was for three months, beginning in August of 1836. Thomas Bryan lived in Habersham County until 1832, when he moved to Walker County. In her application for a pension, Thomasine Grogan Bryan describes Thomas Bryan as being 6'1", with dark hair, blue eyes, and a dark complexion. An unidentified source states that Thomas's middle name was Richard.

  	Thomas Bryan, Jr., home Note on back by Clarence Ray Bryan, Jr.: "View looking north or north by west in afternoon. Home of Thomas Bryan, Jr., my great grandfather, and the boyhood home of Augustus Grogan Bryan, my grandfather. The house was constructed of hewn logs but was covered with boards when I first saw it. Now (1981) it's asbestos shingled. The two chimneys are original. The house sits 5 miles east and a little south of LaFayette, Georgia, on the Alabama Rd. (The distance by Catlett and the present road is 7 miles.) The original land, probably 160 acres, was probably 'bounty' land for service in War of 1812 and/or Creek wars."

The Bryan property went almost to the top of the ridge (locally called "the mountain"). Towards the right of the picture, the land was owned by L.C. (Leander Crook) Bryan, Grandpa's older brother. There is a creek (Cane Creek) between the viewer and the bottom of the ridge that floods after heavy rains. Uncle Lee's (L.C.) house was originally beyond the creek and they couldn't get out when flooded. Some fields existed and were cultivated in the '20s. A spring under a grove of big beech trees lay near the site of the old house, which burned."
