In October 1794, the regiment was in western Pennsylvania active in suppressing the Whiskey Rebellion. About 20 years after that, George Rust purchased a plantation as part of the settlement of the estate of Peter Romine, possibly the grandfather of Samuel Baldwin's wife. Samuel and Hannah Baldwin moved to Ohio from Loudoun County, Virginia, sometime between 1807, when their daughter Charlotte was born, and 1809, when Samuel signed a deed in Belmont County. He is mentioned in court documents in Loudoun County during the 1808-1809 session in a case also involving his brothers Joseph and Mahlon. Follow this link to see the document, which unfortunately contains no further details. On 30 May 1809, Samuel purchased 80 acres of land in Muskingum County from James Johnston of Steubenville, for $400. He is listed on the 1814 tax list of Muskingum County, Ohio. When he died intestate in 1830, the land passed to his children. By 1857, his son James had bought out the other heirs and owned the farm.
