154 | ![]() | Alumni Dublineneses: a register of the students, graduates, professors and provosts of Trinity College in the University of Dublin (1593-1860) This record indicates that Rogers Cotter was born in County Cork, Ireland, and matriculated at Trinity College, Dublin, on 20 October 1807. It states that his father was Rogers, a clergyman, but that information is incorrect. Although his father was a clergyman, his name was George Sackville Cotter. N.F.P. means that there are "no further particulars" on his background. Admissus ad eundum means that he was admitted to Trinity College, Dublin, "to, in, or of the same rank" (ad eundum, implying that he had been a Senior Freshman at Trinity College, Cambridge, and that he was being admitted to Trinity College, Dublin, at the same level. He apparently matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge, on 13 June 1806 as a Pensioner (Pen.) and was probably admitted to Trinity College, Dublin, also as a Pensioner. Historically, most junior members of Trinity College, Dublin, are commoners (or pensioners) who must pay for commons and tuition themselves as distinct from scholars and sizars who both receive free commons and, in the case of scholars, free tuition. Socially, they were a rank below noblemen. Rogers Cotter was the grandson of a Baronet, but not a nobleman himself or the son of a nobleman. | ||
