George Sackville Cotter
George Sackville Cotter (1783-1869) was a Captain in the 69th Foot and served in the Peninsular campaign. He fought at Quatre Bas and also under Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, when he was awarded a medal. Around 1837, he emigrated to Ontario where he was Lieutenant-Colonel of the 10th Battalion, York Militia, Canada West, receiving his commission on 10 November 1846. He held an earlier commission as Lieutenant-Colonel (24 January 1838) under the earlier organization of the militia.
