    • James Russell served in the War of 1812 as a private in Captain Ezra Nott's Company and Captain Frederick Richmond's Company in the New York Militia. The Russell family was living in Goshen Township, Hardin County, Ohio, at the time of the 1850 census. The 1850 census says that James was born in Connecticut. By 1860, they were back in Muskingum County, living in Perry Township.
