- Obituary from Variety, 29 December 2000:
A memorial service for actor-director Stuart Lancaster, who performed in films such as "Edward Scissorhands" and who was a descendent of one of the original Ringling brothers, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Colony Theater, 555 N. Third St. in Burbank. Lancaster, 80, died Dec. 22 in Los Angeles after a long illness.
The grandson of Charles Ringling, one of five brothers to found the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Lancaster was born in Sarasota, Fla. He owned and operated the Palm Tree Theater in Sarasota during the 1950s.
Moving to Los Angeles in 1962, Lancaster began a career in movies that would span 35 years and more than two dozen films, including "The Treat" (1998), "Batman Returns" (1992) and "Edward Scissorhands" (1990).
Other film credits include "The Loch Ness Horror" (1989), "Goodbye, Norma Jean" (1976), "The Long Swift Sword of Siegfried" (1972) and "Born Losers" (1967).
Lancaster also landed recurring roles on the television soaps "Peyton Place" and "The Young and the Restless," and guest starred on shows including "The Invaders," "The Fugitive" and "The Outer Limits."
In addition to his appearances on the big and small screens, Lancaster continued his work in the theater as an actor and director, and was affiliated with the Colony Theater, the Richard Basehart Theater and the Theater Exchange, all in Los Angeles.
He is survived by his wife, actress Ivy Bethune, and daughter, actress-dancer Zina Bethune.
