    • Colonel Ninian Beall's first wife, Elizabeth Gordon, was from Largo, Scotland. Ninian Beall was taken prisoner by Cromwell's forces at the Battle of Dunbar in 1650, and sent to Barbados. He was then sent to Maryland, where he settled about 1652. His sons, John and Thomas, came to America in 1666. Ninian Beall was commander-in-chief of the Maryland forces on Lord Baltimore's vessel, "The Royal Charles," the first Presbyterian elder in America, sheriff and surveyor of Charles County, Maryland, Colonel of the militia, Indian Commissioner, and a member of the Assembly. He was reportedly 6'7" tall, with red hair. By the time of his death, he had acquired over 25,000 acres of land. His birth year has been variously reported as 1615 or 1625 and his death year as 1707 or 1717.
