    • George Cotter was a Captain in the 69th Foot and served in the Peninsular campaign. He fought at Quatre Bas and also under Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, when he was awarded a medal. On 1 December 1816 he was placed on half pay. Around 1837, he emigrated to the Toronto, Ontario, area. On 17 July 1839, he made application for the issue of patents for his purchase of military land. At that time, he owned the mills at Newmarket, Ontario, where he had lived since June of 1837. He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the 10th Battalion, York Militia, Canada West, receiving his commission on 10 November 1846. He held an earlier commission as Lieutenant-Colonel (24 January 1838) under the earlier organization of the militia. In the early 1850s, he moved to Dunn Township, Haldimand County, Ontario.

    George Sackville Cotter
    George Sackville Cotter (1783-1869) was a Captain in the 69th Foot and served in the Peninsular campaign.
