Name John Browne Birth 1628 Gender Male Death 27 Jul 1714 Reading, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA Probate 23 Aug 1714 Notes - John Browne was an early settler of Reading, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was admitted as a freeman in 1679. He probably lived on Cowdrey Hill, where there is a Brown's Pond. The town records sometimes call him "John Brown-upon- the-hill," as there was another John Brown in Reading. He was a prominent citizen and a selectman. His will is dated 18 May 1709, and probated 23 Aug 1714. It mentions six of his children: Nathaniel and John, Hannah Parker, Martha Harrington, Mary Browne, and Elizabeth Hazelton. He left John "five shillings and no more and the reason why is because he is a stubborne, disobedient child -- a rebellious son to me."
