    • Mahlon Baldwin was apparently never married. He left a will in which he specified that his slave woman, Jane Toliver, and her son Gilmore should be set free on Mahlon's death. His assets were to be held by his executors, John S. Ross and Herod Thomas, and be paid to Gilmore when he reached 21 years of age. This will was challenged by Mahlon's siblings (Joseph, William, Stacey, and Lucinda) and several McVeigh relatives, but by 1866 the will had been upheld.
