Obituary Xenia Daily Gazette Aug. 15, 1902:
    Waynesville Gazette:
Daniel Romine, a pioneer citizen of Harveysburg, aged almost eighty years, was found lying in an unconscious state near his home in that village Thursday morning; he lingered until Friday morning, when death released him. Mr. Romine had arisen in the morning and had gone to milk his cows, as was his custom, early in the morning, and when discovered was lying on his back, one of his hands being badly cut where some of the cattle had trampled upon it; however, it is supposed that he was overcome by paralysis and while lying on the ground his hand was stepped on. Later investigation revealed a cut in the back of his head, probably caused by his heavy fall. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the family residence in Harveysburg and the remains conveyed to Miami cemetery for interment. Mr. Romine is survived by an aged widow and one son, Mr. J.T. Romine, of Harveysburg.

Daniel married Elizabeth Baker on 12 Aug 1843. Elizabeth was born in Sep 1824; died on 28 Aug 1912 in Warren County, Ohio, USA; was buried in Miami Cemetery, Corwin, Warren County, Ohio, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Jesse Romine was born in cir 1790 (son of Peter Romine and Ruth Burson); died in 1858 in Massie Township, Warren County, Ohio, USA.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Relationship to parents not proven: This Jesse Romine's father was definitely named Peter, as he's mentioned in the estate record of the Peter Romine who died in Muskingum County, Ohio, around 1823. However, that Peter Romine may not be the Peter Romine who married Ruth Burson.
    • Baptism: Dec 1816, Salt Creek Baptist Church, Smith Mill, Muskingum County, Ohio, USA

    Notes:

    Baptism:
It is likely that this is the Jesse Romine who was baptized at the Salt Creek Baptist Church in Muskingum County, Ohio, in December 1816, but it is not proven. Hannah Romine Baldwin, who may have been his sister, was baptized in the same church in August of that year.

Jesse married Hannah Stump on 20 Nov 1810 in Washington County, Maryland, USA. Hannah was born in cir 1790; died in Dec 1822 in Massie Township, Warren County, Ohio, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Hannah Stump was born in cir 1790; died in Dec 1822 in Massie Township, Warren County, Ohio, USA.

    3. Louisa Romine was born in cir 1815.
    4. Elizabeth Romine was born in cir 1815.
    5. Cornelius Romine was born in cir 1815.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  Peter Romine was born in cir 1750 (son of Peter Romine and Abigail ?); died in cir 1824 in Muskingum County, Ohio, USA.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Relationship not proven: There is indirect evidence only that Peter Romine and Ruth Burson are the parents of the listed children.
    • Deed: 25 Dec 1787, Loudoun County, Virginia, USA; Recorded in Deed Book R, page 012: Peter and Abigail Romine conveyed 150 acres of land to their son, Peter, through a "lease/release" agreement. Lease and release was a mode of conveyance of freehold estates for tax avoidance and speed. Between its parties it achieves the same outcome as a deed of grant/transfer/conveyance.

    Notes:

Peter Romine was involved in a lawsuit in Loudoun County, Virgina, USA (see https://bryan-martin.net/genealogy/showmedia.php?mediaID=4496&medialinkID=4303) which mentions that as executor of his father's estate he had Elias Kent, possibly his son-in-law, and Christopher Snyder inhabit the plantation of his father, Peter Romine.

Peter Romine appears on Loudoun County, Virginia, USA, tax lists for 1804, 1805, 1806, 1807, 1809, 1810, 1811, and 1812, but not thereafter, so he may have moved away from Loudoun County around 1812. There is a Peter Romine on the 1835 tax list, but this may be a different Peter Romine.

    Name:
There are many men named Peter in the various records concerning the Romine family, which has contributed to a certain amount of uncertainty about which records pertain to which Peter. Therefore, it is possible that not all of the information on this page actually refers to the same person. However, there definitely was a Peter Romine in the Muskingum County, Ohio, 1820 census, and he is most likely the same Peter who was put into the care of Samuel Baldwin in late 1821. The ages of the people in the households of the Peter Romine in the 1810 Loudoun County, Virginia, census and the Peter Romine in the 1820 Muskingum County, Ohio, census, provide strong evidence that the two records refer to the same Peter Romine, but this is still not proof. If they are the same person, then most of the information on this page does interconnect. This document details the circumstantial evidence that the two Peter Romines were the same person and the father of Hannah Baldwin, wife of Samuel Baldwin.

    Died:
There is indirect evidence only that links this death date and the estate record below to the Peter Romine who married Ruth Burson. It is difficult to know when he died. His estate record contains an undated receipt from Samuel Baldwin stating that he received payment for boarding Peter Romine for 2 years and 4 months. Since he began caring for Peter in December 1821, then Peter's death probably occurred in March or April 1824. Another document in the estate record states that Samuel Baldwin was to be paid $1.50 per day for boarding Peter "continued til April the 18th 1824", so Peter may have died on that day. Another receipt in the estate record is from James Taylor for "burying clothes", and that receipt is dated March 1824. However, there is another receipt in the estate record from Benjamin Williams for "six dollars for a coffin". The date of that receipt seems to read "November the 13th 1822".

Peter married Ruth Burson on 27 Feb 1768 in Virginia, USA. Ruth (daughter of George Burson and Sarah Cox) was born in cir 1745. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Ruth Burson was born in cir 1745 (daughter of George Burson and Sarah Cox).

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Relationship not proven: There is indirect evidence only that Peter Romine and Ruth Burson are the parents of the listed children.

    Notes:

On 27 February 1768, Ruth Burson was reported married out of unity at the Fairfax (Virginia) Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends. On 28 May 1768, she was disowned.

    Notes:

The children listed for this family were likely siblings or very close relatives of each other, but there is no direct evidence that their parents were Peter Romine and Ruth Burson.

    1. Abigail Romine was born on 19 Mar 1776; died on 7 Mar 1863; was buried in Duncan Falls, Muskingum County, Ohio, USA.

Church records in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, state that Peter and Abigail removed to Loudoun County, Virginia, in the 1750s. Other Romines in Hunterdon County at that time were Christoffel and James. James's wife's name was Sarah, and they were the parents of Mary and Furman Romine. Peter and Abigail Romine donated the land for Katoctin Baptist Church in Loudoun County, Virginia.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Probate: 9 Oct 1786

    Notes:

In July 1740 George Burson was given a 'certificate of removal' by the Gwynnedd Meeting. This is probably when he moved to Loudoun County, though the document does not say where he was going. Over the next few months he sold his land, but he did not apply to join the Fairfax Meeting in Loudoun County until 30 April 1754. George both rented and owned land, including a 'plantation' on the North Branch of Cattacken (that is, Catoctin) Creek, which flows into the Potomac just across from Point of Rocks, Maryland.

George married Sarah Cox on 9 Sep 1731 in Pennsylvania, USA. Sarah (daughter of Richard Cox and Margaret Potts) was born on 15 Dec 1715 in Kennet Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, USA; died in 1786. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Baptism: 3 Apr 1660, Shipton-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire, England, UK

    Notes:

George Burson was evidently one of the 'Keithians,' followers of George Keith, a Scottish associate of William Penn who broke away from the 'orthodox' Quakers in 1692, but that may have happened after George had gone to Pennsylvania. This connection is confirmed by a few sketchy records that suggest he was expelled from the Abington monthly meeting but later re-admitted. One researcher (Wikitree) quotes an entry at Abington from March 1716, saying that a letter written by George was received, abjuring his connection with Keith. However, this was a few months after George had died.

George Burson emigrated to America probably in 1684 and settled in Abingdon Township, now a northern suburb of Philadelphia. He is first mentioned there on 11 August 11 1685 when he witnessed a marriage. Among the other witnesses were Hannah Goud and Hugh Goud. This Hannah was probably his (future) wife, and Hugh was her father.

    Died:
Gilberts Manor, or the Manor of Gilberts, was in that part of Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, that was later split off to form Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
