LAVOIE, RITA A. (BENOIT), 88, of Richmond, formerly of Warwick, died July 16, 2012 at South County Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Leo A. Lavoie and a daughter of the late Edgar and Maude (Guay) Benoit. She is survived by her son, Leo R. Lavoie and his wife, Linda and her grandson, Eric J. Lavoie. She was the sister of the late Irene Sweetman of Cumberland. Mrs. Lavoie was an employee of Leviton Mfg. and Northern Telecom before retiring. Visiting hours will be held Monday, July 23, from 4-7 pm followed by a service at 7 pm at the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave. Burial will be private at the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. According to the 1920 census listing of his children, Joseph was born in Wisconsin. There is also a possibility that he was born in Missouri. Joseph was a blacksmith, and reportedly died as a resultg of being kicked in the chest by a horse.

The witnesses at Mary's baptism were Alexandre Martin and Louise Rivard. Joseph and Mary Martin Guay are buried in Section 25, Plot 807, of St. Ann's Cemetery. At the time of the 1900 census, they were living with Louise Boucher Martin at 376 Richmond Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island. At the time of the 1920 census, Mary Guay was living on Diamond Street, Providence, Rhode Island, with her children Edward, David, Maud, and Louis, and two boarders. In 1930, she was living with her daughter Maude and son-in-law Edgar Benoit, at 119 Sprague Street, Providence, Rhode Island.

Maxime's name is given as Michael in the 1875 Rhode Island census. Maxime Martin was living with his sister, Marguerite Martin Achez, at the time of the 1920 census. It was reported that he immigrated in 1869 and was naturalized in 1917.
