Marie Morin. a "Fille du Roi", left France for Canada in 1665. In 1688, Marie got into a dispute with Jean de Rainville, whose late father had leased a farm to Étienne. De Rainville beat Marie badly enough that she had to go to Québec City for treatment. Preferring to settle the matter out of court, de Rainville agreed in a document drawn up by notary Vachon on 3 June 1688 to pay Étienne 135 livres for the land he had already sown in addition to Marie's medical bills.
