8. Colin Campbell, 1st Earl of Argyll (son of Archibald Campbell, Master of Campbell and Elizabeth Somerville); died on 10 May 1493. Notes:
Colin Campbell was 2nd Lord Campbell and 1st Earl of Argyll, so created in 1457. He was appointed Master of the King's Household in 1464, and was eventually made Lord High Chancellor of Scotland in 1483. His wife, Isabel, was the eldest daughter and co-heir of John Stewart, Lord of Lorne, and on 17 April 1470, Campbell became Lord Lorne by a charter of that date, conveying to him the lands and lordship of Lorne on the resignation of his wife's uncle, Walter Stewart, Lord Invermeath.

32. Duncan Campbell, of Lochow (son of Colin Campbell, of Lochow and Margaret Campbell); died in 1453. Notes:
Sir Duncan Campbell of Lochow, 1st Lord Campbell, was raised to the dignity of a Lord of Parliament by James II in 1445, by the title Lord Campbell. In the previous reign, Duncan had been a member of the Privy Council and been appointed the King's Justiciary and Lord Lieutenant of county Argyll. Lord Campbell was one of the hostages for the redemption of James I in 1424, for whom he collected the ransom, taking it to Windsor. His annual revenue at that time was stated to be 1500 marks, a larger income than that of any of the other hostages.

Robert Stewart was one of the commissioners appointed in 1421 to treat for the return of King James I from England. He went to England in 1429 as one of the hostages for the King's ransom.
