SPRINGFIELD- Lawrence M. Longworth, 80, a recent area resident, entered into the journey of eternal rest on Thursday May 11, 2006 at Reeds Landing. Lawrence was born October 6, 1925 a son of the late Howard C. and Ruth Kohn Longworth. He was a 1943 graduate of Massillon High School in Ohio and received his B.S. from The College of Worcester in 1948. Lawrence furthered his education at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and received his M.S. Lawrence was a U. S. Army Veteran of WWII, having served with the 106th Infantry in the European Theater in the Battle of the Bulge. He was captured and became a P.O.W. for six months. He married, Rita M. Woods September 4, 1948 and the couple recently celebrated 57 years in a loving marriage. Lawrence was employed in the rubber & chemical industry for over 45 years before his retirement from the industry. Lawrence was an active Rotarian in Ohio and Pennsylvania. In addition to his loving wife, Lawrence is survived by two sons, David L. Longworth and his wife Ann of Wilbraham; Bruce H. Longworth and his wife Suzanne Mills of Websters Grove, Missouri; two brothers, his twin, Leonard Longworth of Savannah, GA; Gary Longworth of Grand Rapids, MI; four cherished grandchildren, Hannah Longworth Mills, Emma Longworth Mills, Sarah Longworth, Rebecca Longworth; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on _____________ at ____a.m. in the Old First Church 50 Elm Street, Springfield, MA 01103. A private burial will be held at Glendale Cemetery in Wilbraham. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Disease Association 1600 East Columbus Ave., Springfield, MA 01103. The Forastiere Smith Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
