  Notes	John D. Cotter was living in Edwardsville, Springfield Township, Clark County, Ohio, at the time of the 1880 census, and at 370 Lagonda Street, Springfield, in 1900. According to the 1900 census, he emigrated to the United States in 1878. On 27 May 1881, he purchased land in the city of Springfield, Ohio, from the estate of James A. Warder. He is included on a list of people who attended the "Parkhill" reunion in 1928. His place of residence was given as Springfield, Illinois, but that may be a mistake. In the 1930 census of Clark County, Ohio, he gave his father's place of birth as Northern Ireland. On 3 August 1882, he made his Declaration of Intention for naturalization in the Clark County, Ohio, Probate Court. He was naturalized on11 October 1884. His witnesses were George Cotter and W.J.A. Blanton.
